As a female-led organisation, Jack Murphy Jewellers in Newry have teamed up with Women’s Aid Armagh Down to raise awareness of the support services available to those experiencing domestic and sexual abuse.
The partnership, which will run until the end of May, will see the jewellers share content on behalf of Women’s Aid Armagh Down across their social media platforms.
Gemma Murphy, Partner and Manager, Jack Murphy Jewellers, said: “We are proud to be able to support Women’s Aid Armagh Down for a second year. With a predominantly female following, we hope to use our social media platforms to highlight the services provided by this fantastic charity. On behalf of Jack Murphy Jewellers, we will also be donating furniture items to the Refuge to help in making this time as comfortable as possible for those who need it.”

At the local level, Women’s Aid Armagh Down along with their sisters in Women’s Aid across NI are hoping to raise awareness of the steadily growing level of DA and of Domestic Homicides.

Women’s Aid Armagh Down are celebrating 40 years of service delivery in 2023 and will be holding events throughout the year celebrating their achievements from their inception as Newry Women’s Aid to today and into the future direction of service delivery.
They understand that Domestic and Sexual Abuse disproportionately affects women. Women are considerably more likely to experience repeated and severe forms of abuse, including sexual violence.
Woman’s Aid Armagh Down will use ‘the ‘Opportunity to Make a Difference’ in the lives of victims of domestic and sexual violence and abuse. They offer a range of specialist services to women, children and young people across the ABC and NMD Council areas.
Their ethos promotes self-help and mutual respect and support, for women, with women, by women. They continue to challenge negative and stereotypical attitudes and beliefs surrounding domestic & sexual violence and abuse.
Women’s Aid Armagh Down provides secure crisis accommodation for women, children and young people who are homeless due to domestic abuse. They also provide a trauma sensitive wrap around service that provides practical and emotional support to help women both in immediate crisis and with the longer-term impacts of the abuse.
Women’s Aid Armagh Down also support women, children and young people who are living with or have experienced domestic abuse within our communities who are not seeking refuge. The floating support team offers a range of support services to women affected by domestic abuse. The aim of the service is to help women maintain and sustain their homes, while dealing with difficult and complex needs specific to domestic/sexual violence and abuse.
